HTML Email Designer

We are looking for a skilled HTML Email Designer for our client to serve as backup coverage for our in-house email design team on an on-call basis. This role will be activated either on short notice for brief fill-ins (typically 3 days or less turnaround) or with longer lead time to cover extended absences such as PTO or leave.

• Develop and update email newsletters using established HTML templates, incorporating revised content, images, and layout while maintaining brand consistency and design integrity.
• Design and build custom HTML email campaigns from scratch based on provided creative assets and campaign requirements.
• Ensure all emails are fully responsive and display consistently across major email clients, browsers, and devices.
• Maintain high standards of code quality, accuracy, and visual alignment throughout all email deliverables.

• Demonstrate strong expertise in HTML email development, with deep understanding of rendering differences across major email clients including Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail, and mobile platforms.
• Work efficiently within provided email templates while creating new components or layouts as required.
• Conduct thorough cross‑client and cross‑device testing to ensure consistent appearance and functionality of all email deliverables.
• Exhibit flexibility to support short‑turnaround and time‑sensitive requests, as this role serves as backup support.
• Maintain clear, responsive communication when addressing design revisions, feedback, and clarifications.

**How This Role Works **

This is a retainer-based engagement, not a traditional employment or pure freelance arrangement. The contractor will receive a monthly retainer fee in exchange for guaranteed availability and a commitment to priority on our projects.

**Here's what that looks like in practice **

• The retainer secures the contractor’s ongoing availability and responsiveness, with an expectation of acknowledgment within 48 hours of outreach and the ability to begin work promptly.
• All project work will be billed separately on an hourly basis at an agreed‑upon rate, in addition to the retainer.
• During periods of lower demand, work may not be requested; however, the retainer ensures continued familiarity with templates, brand standards, and workflows to enable quick ramp‑up when needed.
• Advance notice will be provided whenever possible for planned absences, with the understanding that short‑notice requests are inherent to this role.
• Retainer terms, hourly rates, and any applicable monthly minimums or hour caps will be discussed and finalized prior to the start of the engagement.
